Wardenclyffe is a Swedish band (formed 2011) with influences from the doom/thrash sound from the early 90s as well as hard rock from the 70s and 80s.
“Imagine a mix of early Paradise Lost, Celtic Frost, and Samael - musically more in the doom arena but the vocals can intertwine melancholic despair and growling death.” (Eternal Terror)
The band is named after the Serbian inventor and genius Nikola Tesla’s experimental facility in New York. The name is connected to the general thematic approach with thought-provoking lyrics about the connection between world politics, science, religion, occultism, transhumanism, and Artificial Intelligence; well researched by Jacob himself (who has a Ph.D. in Technology and Social Change).
“One can tell that the band leader Jacob Nordangård is an academic, the lyrics are very intelligent and challenging.” (kultursidan.nu)
In the summer of 2012 Nordangård got an idea. He was about to defend his doctoral thesis (Ordo Ab Chao – The Political History of Biofuels in the European Union) and wondered if anyone had ever released a thesis with a soundtrack before. He guessed it was unusual and as the opportunity would never come back he decided to include a recording by Wardenclyffe. Irish artist Elaine Ni Cuana was hired to do the cover for the double release. It was probably the first doctoral thesis in the world with a doom metal cover.
The promo/soundtrack received a lot of praise. German magazine Rock Hard elected it the demo of the month in July 2013.
Wardenclyffe entered Studio Underjord in July 2014 for the recording of “Control All Delete”. In August 2014 a deal was signed with German Ván Records.
The album was released in January 2015 at a very special multi-event show (theatre, exhibition, slide-show, flower arrangements, tesla-coil demonstration etc.). Before the event a specially designed scrap sculpture The Tesla Staff was delivered to the band by the artist Henrik Lunde-Björk.
“The Tesla Staff looks like a weapon, just over two meters high. From the jagged forks flashing fire could be able to spray.” (Kultursidan.nu).
The album was highly acclaimed in the press and was followed up by appreciated performances at festivals like Hell over Hammaburg and Muskelrock.
“It is too early to nominate an album of the year list, but for me it is the first known.” (Metal Fan.nl)
The single “The Omega Point” was recorded at Studio Underjord in September 2015 and was released in December 2015. Preparations for the next full length album started shortly thereafter.
The upcoming Temple of Solomon album aims to take the listener on an adventure that warns of the horrors of a technocratic megalomaniac regime but also predict that their sinister plan will ultimately fail. It will be released together with a book that lays out the whole story about the songs on the album.
The first single Georgia Guidestones/Evilution was released together with Jacob Nordangårds book The Global Coup D'etat in December 2020. A book that describes the ongoing efforts by global elites to digitize the world and cybernetically alter the human being in order to ”save the world”.
